A Disjointed Hello

Excuses why I can’t write:

1) Lou needs too much attention. (Lou is currently in preschool.)
2) I don’t have a computer. (I’ve had this one back for over a week now after finally resolving the problem of the fried power supply)
3) I sit down and the dogs start barking (My screaming silenced them, for once.)

So now, I don’t have a single excuse. Except that my tea is getting cold sitting there… oh wait a minute….alright then.

Oh no there goes the dog again.

Can we try again?

It’s so difficult to pick up the proverbial pen again, after any lengthy absence. So what have we been doing?

Well for Cedric, the answer never changes much. Oh sure, the “project” changes, but the task is always the same – the day spent in front of the screen, or otherwise in an oblivious haze, lost in abstraction and incomprehensible combinations of letters, numbers, and symbols. I try not to think about it, really. Frankly, he frightens me. One time he told me, without a hint of insincerity, “code can be beautiful.”

Louison is well into his second morning of preschool, though the first of the season without mamma. He seemed eager to go this morning. Though frankly, the Baptist run school frightens me. I try not to think about it, really.

I have nothing productive to report for myself. I still haven’t gotten back into my pre-vacation routine. I was happy to get back, though, to my kitchen and my bed and my books and articles and essays in English. In fact I spend several hours a day reading, so I ran out of reading material rather quickly in France. My mother in law may have a rather well stocked library, but my motivation to read Faulkner in French is, approximately, nil. Much TV was watched. I am now so repelled by TV that I cringe to think of turning it on. I’ve cancelled the ten basic channels we had left on our cable subscription – we’re TVless. Add that to the list of things that make us suspicious.

Life without television...I am in awe. I say that when the last child leaves so shall the T.V....but often (actually always) Mike says it will not leave but grow in size and channels. I am glad to see that you are back to your keyboard. The Baptist will often have a medevil perspetive on role models, hence the always dominate male, but for a 2 and 1/2 year-old with a clever mom like you it can easily be disguised as a fairy tale version of reality....Love, Mom

Glad to have you back, hope you had a great vacation. FYI, Amber is pregnant, due in the spring. (Yes, Patrick turned 1 on August 18th and Shannon is not yet three. Yikes!)

It may have something to do with that area of brain I'm actually missing. The computer and math hole, you know...

Nice to hear from you, Tien. I was just thinking of you yesterday. I hope you are well.
