Unfortunately, I found the American Cemetery "overdone." As far as cemeteries go, I think simple is much more eloquent and moving. The statues, reflecting pool, and full color plaques detracted from the experience. The attitude of the number of Americans there was not in the least solemn, and the experience left me feeling more like I had been to Disney World than than a sacred site. The ten thousand tombs could speak for themselves.
