It may not have gone exactly as planned. You see, the weirdest thing happened yesterday. When Loulou woke up from his afternoon nap, he was covered with mysterious spots, like a little leopard child. Except he didn’t have pointy ears, and his spots were red, not black. Though I didn’t immediately freak out, I did raise my mental alert level to orange: add Dr.s pager number to speed dial, and rectal temperature reading every hour, on the hour (he loves it, really).
So, though the wild spotted baby didn’t exhibit any other symptoms, and he went to sleep without a problem, I remained on high alert. And when he woke up at 1 am and cried for 30 minutes, and didn’t show any signs of calming no matter what we tried, well…. I let him nurse to sleep, right next to me in bed. I thought, What kind of mother would I be if my child has a serious illness and I won’t even comfort him? And I also thought, I am too damn tired for this. But really, I didn’t want to push it. I was afraid he may have the chicken pox, or the small pox.
Today, the spots have nearly disappeared. No signs of illness either. You think he’s trying to pull one over on me?
But I do have a tiny bit of progress to report. When I put him down for the night, I rocked him into a stupor, but not to sleep. Then I put him on the bed and shhh-ed him to sleep. Supposedly, that helps! My goal is to have this sorted out by Christmas. And I’m not joking.

Salut jessica,
Somethime, our childrens wants to get her mum crazy...
A bientôt

Thanks for that link Dave. I think that's what it was. He did have a fever preceeding the rash.
I wasn't familiar with roseola - probably because I tend to focus on the fatal, horrible illnesses. I skip right over the benign possibilities. :-)
