Birds

In my sentimentality/ senility, I’ve begun feeding the birds. As you may (but probably don’t) know, we live in a 1960s suburban split-level utopia. While this, like anything, has advantages and drawbacks, one of the nice parts is that we border a very large state forest, so we have a lot of wildlife venturing into our yard. I’ve seen deer, turtles, rabbits, and rare bird species in our neighborhood. So, we’re in a nice spot for feeding the birds.
Still, I never started feeding them on purpose. The bird feeders “came with the house,” and Lou ended up with a little bird seed from a preschool Christmas party – all the necessary ingredients to get us started .
I am uneasy about the cats – Gros Chat has killed so many birds he’ll never make it out of cat purgatory. I hope they won’t get any of these.
Somehow, I find the birds more enjoyable than the cats, though.
