Weekend Blahs

by Jessica on January 21st, 2006

Back when I was working, or going to school, or doing anything else that involved a life outside of my home and my child, I always looked forward to the weekends. These days, however, the weekends are just plain rotten. Today has been largely terrible.
I still tend to look forward to the weekends (old habits die hard). I tell myself it will be a change from the baby routine, we will do something amusing, I will have less work, etc. Friday night normally starts off relaxing enough, but by Saturday mid-day, things have usually gone far south
The Baby is rarely well behaved on the weekends. It may be the change in the routine, or he may be feeding off my own internal stress, or it may just be a very unfortunate coincidence. Today, he spent most of the day making an “MMMMMM MMMMMM MMMMMMMMMMMMMM” sound that means “I’m irritated, and seconds away from screaming.” Granted, he’s teething. But wow, that sound wears on my nerves like…..well…. like something really annoying, in any case.
I think the real problem may be that there is simply no room for the spontaneity anymore. I get up with the baby at 6:30, and by the time I’ve done some housework and taken care of breakfast, it’s already nap time. But ideally, if we plan to go anywhere, he needs to take his morning nap in the car. Otherwise, car rides = screaming = I would rather be a prisoner in my home, thank you. So there you go – only 9:30 am and we have missed our window of opportunity to do anything other than stay in our wretchedly boring town.
Oh yeah, the town itself may be a big part of my problem, but I’ll spare you that rant for the moment.
I do have more time to for myself on the weekends, since Cedric is here to help. Yet I never get anything done during that time – Baby is so distracting. I would have to leave the house to be productive, and I think I already touched on this one – there is nowhere to go.
Long sigh of blatant irritation. I suppose to I need get more organized, to the effect of “This family is going to have fun this weekend, Dammit!” I need to plan the weekend well in advance, and such. But somehow, that hardly sounds like much fun either.
