New Year Tradition

by Jessica on December 31st, 2005

As I have said before, having a baby makes Holiday traditions that much more meaningful. That is why, this year, I’ve decided to continue with my longstanding New Year’s tradition. That’s right, I am again ringing in the New Year incapacitated by viral illness (I celebrate birthdays and various other federal holidays in the same manner). And this year, I have been able to include the Baby in my tradition! We are quite the feverish, congested, miserable pair.
Cedric and I, in the five New Years that we have celebrated together, have never gone out once. The first year, we had planned to do so, but of course I got sick. So he, at my insistence, left me in my misery and pools of vomit, to celebrate with friends.
Tonight, for multiple reasons, we are staying at home again. They are, as follows:
1.) The baby is sick. He will wake up numerous times, expecting us.
2.) From what I hear, babysitters cost “the skin of the ass” on New Years Eve, as the French would say.
3.) We have no friends anyway.
But don’t feel bad for us. We are happy, celebrating in our pathetic way. I made frozen lasagna! We drank some leftover champagne. We lit the multi-candle center-piece. And honestly, I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be to celebrate, than in the happiness of our home, with the two people I love best.
Happy New Year everyone! 2005 has been a great year for our family, here’s to 2006!

Vous n’avez pas des amis? What are we, chopped liver? Quel shoque! AND I would have watched your child, FREE OF CHARGE (not that he necessarily would have enjoyed that). See, you should have come to Chicago. Being sick on the road is always more fun anyway.

  2. Oh Sara, of course you are my BFF. But, I had to say it that way for dramatic effect. Or something.

Well, yes, I of course understand that some people just don’t appreciate dramatic emphasis in writing.
