Nights in Our House
It is the best of times, and it is the worst of times.
(Oh if only I didn’t have to steal other writer’s lines, and reveal what a pathetic poseur I really am.)
The baby is out of our room now. He spends the whole night in his own little room, snug in his own little bed. He nurses once during the night, usually around 3 am, then goes back to sleep without protest. It’s so nice to be able to stretch out and snore loudly without waking or smashing Baby. It’s nice to be able to lie in bed and take in a book before I turn off the lights. It’s nice to be able to put on my pajamas without cringing in fear when the closet door squeaks a tiny bit.
But all is not perfect in Sleepyland, dear reader. Something bad has happened. Something sinister. Something downright evil. I believe my sweet little Baby may have become possessed… by a wicked Hell demon! For even though he sleeps in his own room, he often wakes up at…. 6am! Or earlier! The horror.
Once upon a time, he slept until 8am, or later. I can remember mornings where I got up with him after 9am. And I mourn those days, reader. Now I spend my days in a sleepy, confused haze, doing things like putting the cats in the washing machine and eating candle wax for breakfast.
We are at our wits end. Sometimes, it can take an hour to get him back to sleep. Sometimes he won’t sleep at all.
What do we do? Admit defeat? Book an exorcism? The thing is, he is so obviously tired and grouchy when he wakes up early. And exorcisms are only for Catholics anyway. Solutions aren’t easy to come by after all.

Hi Sava ! Nice site here! take a look at mine,
THX
Hi Jessica! You are such a good writer! I am dying to see you and your little one! Our Shannon is getting big, walking and trying to talk like crazy. Unfortunately, I am not as lucky as you are with the sleeping, and even at 13 months I still sleep right beside her. Even then she wakes up around 2:00 for a bottle of whole milk. I am a mom full time, teacher full time, and absolutely exhauseted full time as well! Hopefully I will get to see you soon!
Sergio: Nice site. Unofrunately, I don’t speak Portuguese, so I don’t understand much! But the pics are nice.
Amber: Thanks for the compliment. Tell me when you’ll be in the Greencastle/Cloverdale area, and we’ll stop by and introduce the kids!
Concerning sleeping, did you try the book “No-Cry Sleep Solution” by Elizabeth Pantley? That’s how we did it, but it was certainly a slow process (still in progress).
Poor parents, the night life often does come to an end with children. I can remember a time when staying out till 2:00 or 3:00 in the morning was no big deal, after all you could sleep until noon the next day. Then there were children. I think those early mornings prepare us for old age and the frequent need to visit the bathroom. Hard to believe you can have 6 hours of an 8-hour day in by noon!
Love, Mom
