Goodbye Gummy Grin and Other Milestones

Our baby has officially become a danger to himself and others. Firstly, his two bottom front teeth are pushing through. Though they are only now barely visible, I cringe to think that soon his teeth may leave marks on my tender flesh. A toothy smile is over-rated, my friends.

He has also learned that he can roll over – both ways. Herein lays perhaps the biggest danger – no more leaving him unattended on the changing table, no more leaving him on the guest bed as I go about the housework. No, now we are extra vigilant. But even the floor has proven unsafe, as just yesterday Charlie, lying on his side facing Loulou, lightly pawed his baby face. The resulting screams were exaggerated, but even knowing this does little to ease my guilty mother conscience.
But by far the worst part of his new mobility has been that his favorite time to practice is at 6:30 am, rolling back and forth between his father and me as we desperately cling to slumber. And one can only sleep through so much of baby rolling into you, pulling lips and hair, and laughing hysterically (and so very loudly). Which is why I’m now up at 7, typing this. I’ve heard it only gets worse, that some children are prone to middle of the night wakings when they are learning to walk, wanting to practice their new skills. Perhaps then you will find me writing posts in the wee hours of the morning, as baby toddles around, wreaking general havoc on the house.
